Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: A surprisingly high profile greeted the release of this “best of”, notable for two previously unreleased songs, a Peel Session recording of ‘Day By Day’ from 1977 (sloppier than the proper version), and the lively but unremarkable ‘New Order’ from 1980. The undoubted nadir is the dub version of ‘Wild Youth’, which might have been the very first punk/dub crossover but that didn’t mean that, like most dub versions of punk songs, it wasn’t appalling. The compilation’s title comes from a pair of privately pressed "official bootleg" singles from early 1977, which were given away at shops and gigs. The contents of these are not included here.Additional Notes
